Shark Shuffle 2009



The 2009 Shark Shuffle 5K Run/Walk will take place on NSU's main campus this Sunday, Oct. 11. The race will begin at 7:30 a.m.

Before and during the race, certain roads surrounding the university's main campus may be closed or have limited access. These roads include parts of University Drive, SW 30th St., and College Ave. Please be aware of these closures if you are traveling to the main campus on Sunday morning.

Careers in Counseling - Free Workshop at NSU on April 14


You are invited to a special networking seminar for individuals who are pursuing a rewarding career in counseling. Please come join us at Nova Southeastern University, Maltz Psychology Building on Tuesday April 14, 2009 in room 2047. This informal event will include a brief presentation by Shannon Ray, Ph.D., Assistant Professor and a financial aid presentation.

Dr. Ray is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida, a National Certified Counselor, and a Clinically Certified Mental Health Counselor. She is the lead faculty for the mental health counseling program and has extensive clinical experience working with individuals across the life span.

CPS Reception

A reception for CPS graduates and their guests will be held following the commencement ceremony at the Bank Atlantic Center AvMed All Star Café. There is no limit to the number of guests that graduates may invite at no charge.The AvMed All-Star Café is located on the Club Level. CPS Graduates and their guests may get to the Club Level by taking the Glass Elevators located at the North Side and the North Escalators. The Glass Elevators and the North Escalators are located by the main entrance.CPS Graduates will receive a formal invitation by mail. RSVP is TBA. Ceremony

During the commencement ceremony graduates will be called to the stage, announced as a candidate, and be awarded certificates of congratulations. Diplomas will not be distributed at commencement. In order to receive the official diploma, graduating students must submit an Application for Degree to the Office of the University Registrar http://www.nova.edu/cwis/registrar/commencement.html.

Professional Development Institute, May 29 and 30, 2009

Professional Development Institute:

The second annual Center for Psychological Studies Professional Development Institute is scheduled for May 29 and 30, 2009. The Professional Development Institute is a conference designed to cover topics relevant to practicum students as well as those preparing to begin practicum. In a conference-style program students will attend sessions on important concepts necessary for beginning clinicians offered by faculty and other community experts. This is a perfect opportunity to learn (or review) those very important issues that make beginning therapists anxious about client care.

Topics will include evaluation of lethality and dangerousness, abuse reporting, substance abuse screening, group therapy basics, documentation/charting, working with families, psychopharmacology, and preparation for professional career/licensure.

Registration and hotel information will be available on the CPS website March 30, 2009.
